Police Dog Visit

Lesson: PSHE and citizenship

Class: Year 6 Year: 2024 - 2025

We were very excited to be visited by the Merseyside Police’s Dog Section. As well as meeting the human officer, Gemma Pagan, we were delighted to be introduced to canines.  Gemma explained to us the role of each dog and their vital roles within the team. We learned that they use their amazing sense of smell to protect the public and officers. We then witnessed the intelligence of dogs at work. Louis used his sense of smell to locate a key and the two German Shepherds demonstrated their ability to follow verbal commands; one even barked when asked to speak. It was wonderful and we enjoyed sharing this experience with other Mini Police from St. Monica’s and St Hugh’s Primary. A big thank you to Gemma and her amazing dogs for such a wonderful experience.
