Year 2 Autumn 1 News
Year two children have had a fun and exciting start to the year, building on their previous experiences to learn lots of new things. In Geography, Katie Morag introduced us to the Isle of Struay where we learned about physical and human features of the environment and compared them to Litherland. We also found out about the famous landmarks in Liverpool, including the Cathedrals, The Liver Building, Port of Liverpool Building and Radio City Tower and enjoyed using rubbings and collage to make our own representations of the landmarks.
We were really interested to look at Islamic artefacts in RE and to begin to find out about the beliefs of Muslims and the life of Muhammad(PBUH).
We have talked about why hygiene is important and enjoyed devising our own healthy meal after studying the 'Eat Well' plate in Science where we found out about the need for a balanced diet of protein, fruit and vegetables, carbohydrates, dairy and fats and sugars.
We have continued our phonic learning journey, building up our knowledge of sounds and using them when reading exciting new titles in our Pirate Ship and Rainbow reading areas and at home with our parents.
In Maths we have counted in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s (please practise at home!) and have used a range of strategies including the bar model, part whole model and column method to solve addition and subtraction problems.
